Iguaҫu/Iguazu Falls is the second largest waterfall in the world. The falls are on the border of three countries – Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
We had heard that it was good to see the falls from both the Brazillian and Argentinian sides. We’re really glad we took two days here so we could do this. Seeing the falls has definitely been a highlight of the trip for us both – we were blown away by their scale, energy and beauty. It’s also been nice having a breather from huge cities and being surrounded by trees and water rather than concrete.
We started with the Argentinian side. The park is set up with a series of walking tracks, viewing platforms and a miniature railway. We liked the drama of the Argentinian side – the path we took granted just glimpses of the falls at first and gradually built up to grand panoramic views. We spent the whole day here, as there were plenty of different tracks.
We stayed in Puerto Iguazu in Argentina that night. It’s a nice little tourist town with plenty of hostels within a few minutes’ walk of the bus terminal. We crossed into Brazil on a local bus (a pretty casual border crossing) and were soon at the entrance to the Brazilian side of the falls.
The Brazilian side was more “developed”– a double-decker bus takes you almost right up to the falls. There were fewer perspectives on the falls, with just one short walking track, however, the view on this side was unmissable. You really feel the power of the falls here, getting right up to the Devils’ Throat, the highest and largest section of the falls.
You might have assumed we’ve been enjoying the heat in South America, but we arrived in Chile and Argentina just in time for a big cold snap (and it is winter, after all). Now that we’re further north, it’s starting to get hot. Tonight we’re heading further north still to Sao Paulo, Brazil . We are CouchSurfing again and will have three days there. As if getting by on 40 words of Spanish wasn’t bad enough, we’re now facing 10 days in Brazil with no Portuguese at all!
Thanks for all your comments so far, we’ve really enjoyed hearing from you all :-)

Iguazu is amazing Craig, we went to Chile & Argentina in Dec 2011/Jan2012. The sheer size and amount of water that travels through the falls. What would it be like after a heavy rainfall!!! Agree with the Brazilian crossing and what a difference between the two areas.
